week 10 finale

I especially enjoyed learning about flicker, the social networking sites, and exploring downloadable media. I was amazed that I was able to accomplish these exercises on my own. I discovered that while I may be no technological genius I am not altogether hopeless. I believe that the podcasting and you tube would be especially useful for the library staff, because these would be good ways to share program ideas. All of these ideas will be useful to us, because we will be better equipped to help our customers in this technological age. The ways that I would like to progress further in 2.0 is to be more proficient with flicker, became more familiar with Yahoo's diverse services, and become more familiar with other search engines besides yahoo and google. I am greatful for this experience, because of the knowledge that I have acquired.

week 9 downloadable media

I searched HCPL's downloadable media site, and found some treasures that I never knew existed. I viewed the downloadable videos and found classics such as Bloodbeast Terror and Broken Blossoms. This technology is wonderful, since you can view classics that you cannot find in video stores or library collections. I find the format and organization of our downloadable media site to be user friendly. I believe that Wowio is equally user friendly as far as organization, and I also found treasures that I never knew existed such as Edgar Allan Poe's short stories "Assignation" and "Berenice". This downloadable media alerts to to more obscure literary works that are equally as enjoyable as better known works such as "The Raven" or "The Fall of the House of Usher." I wasn't too fond of LibriVox, since it wasn't not user friendly, and the media selection is not as substantial. I found the format to be boring.

week 9 podcasts

I visited the podcastnet directory and found a librarian related podcast by using the alphabetical tags. I found a podcast called the Rock and Roll librarian which was created by a young adult librarian named Tyler Rousseau who lives in Ocean City. He created a podcast where he interviewed Dave Ramon who is a graphic artist and editor for Nickelodian Magazine. He also created a cute podcast where his baby appeared to be narrating a book. He created a podcast where he attended the "American Animae awards. I saved this podcast to my bloglines. I believe that podcasts are useful tools in educating ourselves with the events of the professional world in libraries. We can also get library program ideas through this tool.

week 9 you tube

I viewed a video that showed cats conversing with one another. The video was adorable, and it was believable that the cats were conversing with one another. I also viewed a video of a friend of mine singing a song called Southern Pride. I believe you tube is an excellent vehicle for folks who are musically talented to expose their abilities to the public. I would be surprised if talent scouts didn't utilize this resource for new talent. I believe that you tube would be useful for libraries, since this would be a good opportunity for librarians to view programs conducted at other libraries. What I do not like about you tube is the lack of restriction. Anybody can put anything on you tube, so you will encounter material that makes you uncomfortable.

zoho writer week 8

I believe that zoho writer is a convenient tool, because you can access this resource from any computer that has internet access. I do not need to be concerned with cd's, flashdrives, or floppy disks. I also needn't be concerned whether the computer contains the proper software. This tool would be most convenient for library patrons who do not have the currency on hand to purchase disks or software. This tool would also be convenient for patrons who wish to compose resumes or cover letters, since they contain the templates for resumes or cover letters. This tool will save us the step of having to enter microsoft word to seek the templates. I like the arrangement of having on the tools conveniently located on a tool bar and not having to utilize a menu. One of the tools that especially impresses me is the special characters tool that allows you to insert accents marks over letters in foreign language words. The symbols for the tools are user friendly and easy to spot.
